Joce Reyome Breathes Fresh Life Into the Blues With ‘Cross My Heart’

Joce Reyome’s debut single comes across as a real stunner. “Cross My Heart” makes heavy nods to classic R&B and Blues, with tales of heartbreak and woe, drinking and gambling t’boot, but following in the more modern footsteps of Alabama Shakes, Reyome has breathed some excitingly fresh life into these genres. Considering Joce’s musical background, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Continue reading Joce Reyome Breathes Fresh Life Into the Blues With ‘Cross My Heart’

Justyn Thyme Carves Out a Folk Portrait of Himself on New Single ‘Return Me’

The latest single from Prince Edward Island’s Justyn Thyme is a delightfully uncomplicated folk song that—in the way that seems to pervade PEI folk songs on some level—wistfully evokes life on the island. “Return Me” may be Justyn’s contemplation on what it means to be human and the winding journey toward authentic self-expression, but it all seems to inevitably circle back home. Whether one imagines themselves within the comfort of a benevolent forest or flying through the sky on nothing but the clothes on their back and the will of thin air, the many scenes that music can paint for us has drawn us towards it day after day, year after year.

But artists of all sorts always find ways to subvert the expectations of our experiences, arguably by the very nature of the profession. This time, it’s Russell Louder’s “Home” that does just this; subverting the notion of escapism into something much more tactile and powerful; a prime way of establishing the essence of their upcoming debut album, Humour. Andrew Waite Isn’t About To Let the Team Down on ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That’

Andrew Waite’s latest single comes at you with all the energy of a Bruce Springsteen sports anthem, complete with horns a’blazin’. Rather than the ‘rah rah’ of a team determined to win, “Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That” is a little more pointed. Instead, it’s a rallying cry for someone who is determined not to lose and certainly not thanks to someone who isn’t pulling their own weight.
