Single: Rube & Rake Suffer from Bicoastal Heartache on ‘Somewhere’

St. John’s, Newfoundland-based multiple Music NL award-winning Americana Folk duo Rube & Rake have been keeping relatively busy, or at least relatively productive, in the time of COVID. They’ve traded their long hauls on the road into something a lot closer to home via Home Routes and turned that time into songcraft. They’re releasing the first new material since their 2017 debut album, Back and Forth. On the heels of two previously released singles, “Fleeting Moment” and “What Will” comes “Somewhere,”  a song about knowing where to rest your head. Music Video: Soap Opera Record an At-Home Version of ‘Tension Mountain’

When Soap Opera recorded their latest album, Be Fire, in the summer of 2019 it was with a certain level of uncertainty in mind. Bandmates Adam Engram and Peter Lannon found themselves going through a period of big changes while the songs were being written. But it was the normal everyday kind of changes they were experiencing: love, work, school, and the other usual events that make up a life. The impacts of COVID-19 have been far-reaching and the lasting effects, both health-wise and the reverberations the pandemic will have on our collective societal psyche, have yet to be fully understood. One thing we might have anticipated, however, was the red-eyed, no-limits-but-your-own lifestyle of hardcore Netflix binge-watching that a quarantine might induce.

The new single from Adam Baxter, “Keep Safe”, is not the public service warning for six-feet-of-safety and wash-your-hands-while-you’re-at-it that you’d expect, but the result of taking in the first full season of Ozark. Music Video: Silver Wolf Band Point Out That Lake Melville Isn’t a Bay at All on ‘Estuary’

Silver Wolf Band, out of Happy Valley-Goosebay, Labrador, want to set something straight about nearby Lake Melville: it’s not a bay, it’s an estuary and probably even a metaphor. The curiously named body of water has been a matter of some debate, and in a pique of accurate hydrological pedantry, Silver Wolf Band have either laid matters to rest with the matter-of-factly titled single “Estuary,” or else stirred up a new seven-day wonder for the people of Labrador to sort out.
