It is disheartening to hear that 40% of the estimated 7000 languages spoken around the world are in danger of disappearing. In 2016 the United Nations General Assembly came up with a resolution to name 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages, hoping to bring awareness and protect the cultural diversity that surrounds the cause. Music Video: Miller – MacDonald – Cormier go Digging Through History with ‘Alasdair nan Stòp’
Taken from their ECMA-nominated sophomore album, South Haven, the Celtic trio of Ben Miller, Anita MacDonald, and guitarist Zakk Cormier have released a new performance video for their version traditional Gaelic song “Alasdair nan Stòp”. Coincidently, it may be the only recorded version of the tune in modern history, giving the band the opportunity to geek out over how choose to interpret it.

Any number of tracks from Stewart Legere’s 2017 album, Quiet The Station, might have stood out as singles. The entire album was full of hits. From its gentler swaying tracks that showed off Legere’s prowess as a songwriter to the infectious low-key dance-inducer “Please Say,” there were no shortage of highlights that made it one of our favourite albums of the year. “Carry the River,” however, grew from a story that Legere felt needed to be told, and he did it his way: with a self-produced music video and a big black cape.
