New Brunswick’s festival scene is shifting. In the land of a thousand festivals there is strong competition to be the biggest and the wildest, to build the most over-the-top stages or book the craziest headliners. The largest festivals vie to dominate, or at least differentiate, as they either capture or cater to audiences while competing with new festivals that seem to be popping up all the time. If every weekend was another Evolve, Future Forest, or Folly Fest we’d all be dead. Certainly, I’d be dead at the very least. So thank God there are still places like Tay Creek Folk Festival. 2018: The Year Evolve Got Its Groove Back
For nineteen years now, practically a lifetime in terms of music festivals, Evolve has been the benchmark for east coast music festivals. Long perceived as having one of the best music lineups in Eastern Canada, Evolve is the big one that gets everybody all starry-eyed. Halifax Jazz Festival 2018 – “Keep Calm and Chaka Khan”
As far as festivals go, the Halifax Jazz Festival is best described as a city festival. There are no tent villages or campsites—at least not ones for sleeping in. A lucky few were able to enjoy the music from stadium-style bleachers, but most spectators seemed to prefer standing in the middle of the festival grounds, taking it all in with their plastic beer cups in hand.
