With an evening hosted by Jay Malone and Justine Williamson, the 2021 East Coast Music Awards took to social media for a cootie-free virtual award show. Featuring performances by Beòlach, Classified, Hauler, Jimmy Rankin, Keonté Beals, Les Hay Babies, Like A Motorcycle, Rachel Beck, Rich Aucoin, Rose Cousins, Silver Wolf Band, and Zamani, the evening saw the first batch of 14 award-winners named, along with a special tribute to Rita MacNeil, performed by former bandmates friends and more to celebrate her induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. East Coast Music Awards Double Down on Pivot, Announces New Dates for Online Festival
Just five days ago, the East Coast Music Association (ECMA), announced that, with the news that Nova Scotia would be fighting up travel restrictions, it would be necessary for their annual festival and conference to move from a live event in Sydney, Nova Scotia to a digital format. Beòlach Bring Home Two Wins From 2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards – Full List of Winners Announced
During a bilingual broadcast hosted by Jean Hewson and Benoit Bourque over the weekend of April 10-11, the Canadian Folk Music Awards announced the winners of their 2021 Awards. Nineteen awards, along with the presentation of the Slaight Unsung Hero Award to Winnipeg’s Ava Kobrinsky, were handed out. While the top winners were Pharis & Jason Romero with their three wins, not far behind are Beòlach who brought two awards home to Nova Scotia this year. Canadian Folk Music Awards Leans Into the Stream, Announces 2021 Performers
The Canadian Folk Music Awards have been making the best of a bad situation. While festivals and live performances have been shut down for more than a year now, the CFMA has doubled down on its efforts to connect with audiences.
When the world first locked, they had just three weeks to pivot their annual Awards Show into a livestream. As early adopters of the digital way of life, they’ve put in the practice necessary to capture the vibrant energy of live showcases and an awards gala, without any of this silly business of getting out of our pyjamas.
