New Music: Botfly Releases Self-Titled Album

Heavy, droning and seeded with aggressive, gravelly growls, Botfly has a deceptively metal flavour. Hailing from Halifax, the noise-rock trio consisting of Keegan Goodspeed (vocals/guitar), Sean McInnis (bass) and Dewayne Shanks (drums) started out in 2013 and released a series of singles/EPs before unleashing their self-titled, debut LP. A cliche headbanger/mosh pit-inducing anti-melody, this album is not. More akin — on an emotional level — to shoegaze, this is an atmospheric soundscape that requests an investment of time from its listeners. New Music: Ian Sherwood Releases ‘Bring The Light’

Ian Sherwood, folk singer/songwriter from Halifax, just released his fifth studio album: Bring The Light. The album delivers contemporary, acoustic, folk and pop sounds, and even has a few hints of jazz—all within 12 widely-varied tracks. Sherwood mixes feelings of calm and relatability while managing to keep his own style throughout. And while each song is unique, the album’s entirety is so easy to listen to. New Music: Floodland Releases Second Album ‘Static Walls’

Back with their second full-length album, Floodland has recently launched their newest album, ‘Static Walls.’ Focused on innovation and reinvention, ‘Static Walls’ covers a broad spectrum of genres, from hard rock to acoustic indie jams, with each track exploring the band’s potential in a new direction. With much of the album recorded live, Floodland delivers a raw, authentic sound that ties the whole album together regardless of the specific song’s style. Music Video: Mauno’s ‘Helah’ Is Manufactured Nostalgia

When you’re a touring musician, you need to make the best of your time on the road. Go where the audiences are—be they domestic or foreign—and the work will follow. It is essentially the opposite of the Field of Dreams business model: if someone else has built it, you must go, as it has been ordained by the Universe and Kevin Costner, the only exceptions being Celine Dion and Cher who get to stay in Vegas. It’s a life of great inconvenience, requiring great sacrifice and necessitating fitting in what you can, where you can. As Mauno have yet to earn their Vegas residencies, they are currently touring the UK and Europe, which is exactly where we find them in their new video:  ‘Helah’.
