Timber Lounge: Noise Complaints Lead To Music Getting The Axe

A rash of noise complaints has forced Halifax’s Timber Lounge to cancel most of its live music shows and is leaving two worker’s jobs hanging in the balance. As the result of three noise complaints the venue’s live music license, controlled by the Nova Scotia Liquor and Gaming Board, has been revoked.

In the Dead of Winter Festival Announces 2018 Lineup

It’s November, and our stock of Vitamin D is already dwindling. The sun has almost completely abandoned the northern hemisphere, and if it weren’t for the lawn we’d already be festering in a monochromatic hellscape. Thankfully, the 13th annual In the Dead of Winter Festival is Halifax’s answer to the winter blues. This year, the songwriter-based festival will offer three action-packed days, featuring twenty-five acts, including headliners Waxahatchee, Terra Lightfoot, Simone Schmidt and Kaia Kater. Staying Local, Youthful and Spontaneous: Halifax Pop Explosion Continues To Invest In Their Roots After 25 Years

Halifax Pop Explosion attracts not only the best of the east coast, but some of the best in Canada and beyond. The music festival is a vein for this to grow every year, and once again it delivered with headliners Japandroids, Cloud Nothings and The Rural Alberta Advantage. However, while these shows are diamonds forged from the relentless work put in by the local music community, they are not what best represents the letters HPX. The festival is all about staying humble to the scene’s roots and investing in and giving new opportunities to homegrown talent. At the quarter century mark of creating some of the most diverse line-ups on the east coast, the festival still remembers to mark its flag in all the areas that make it special.
