The East Coast Music Association rounded out a weekend of socially-distanced festivities with a broadcast awards show and a slew of performances. Having already announced the bulk of the 2020 award winners, the final night set aside some of the ECMA’s biggest categories. Among the biggest winners this year were Wintersleep and Tim Baker.
In a whirlwind online presentation, the East Coast Music Association announced the winners of the East Coast Music Awards. Technically the 2020 ECMA Pre-Awards Show, the winners of 18 music awards, 11 industry awards, and 3 honorary awards were all announced today, leaving a generous handful of big awards and big performances for tomorrow night’s Award Show proper. With the WHO officially declaring COVID-19 a pandemic, we’ve quickly discovered another casualty of coronavirus: festival season. Major events like SXSW, Coachella, and the JUNO Awards have become the proverbial canaries in the coal mine, leading the list of festival already announced their cancellation or rescheduling. Despite the growing list of festivals to be effected by the virus, the East Coast Music Association have said there are no plans to cancel their 2020 awards show and conference happening in St. John’s, Newfoundland from April 29 to May 3.
