New Music: Andrew Sisk Releases ‘Antarcticalia’ EP

Andrew Sisk can fit a lot into three minutes. In each track on his new six-song EP Antarcticalia, he does in that timespan what many musicians are unable to do with more. Grab attention, create a scene and let go at just the right moment. He sings intimately over a gentle and sometimes sparse arrangement that gradually evolves as additional instruments are layered on. Once he’s set up the plot and all the layers are in place, he passes the spotlight to the music, letting it take centre stage as it continues to build, coming alive to carry the listener through to the end. There’s never any filler, no unnecessary repetition or interludes that take the song off focus, and there’s never a moment when it feels too long or too short. This is a skill many lack that Andrew has mastered. Continue reading New Music: Andrew Sisk Releases ‘Antarcticalia’ EP

New Music: Levi Rowan Releases ‘Nude Beach’

18 year-old New Brunswick hip-hop artist Levi Rowan’s debut EP, Nude Beach unfolds like a coming-of-age story. Early in the album, Levi paints a picture of his life growing up in the rural community of Belleisle. It’s a place where gossip travels fast and a bad reputation is hard to shake. New Music: Port Cities Self-Titled Release ‘Port Cities’

After years of building hype with promotional videos, steady performances, and even an international tour, Port Cities have finally released their self-title debut album. A collaboration of acclaimed Nova Scotian singer/songwriters Carleton Stone, Dylan Guthro, and Breagh McKinnon, Port Cities lays out a stunning performance with unapologetically honest lyrics, smooth three-part harmonies, and slick production. Much like their namesake, Port Cities’ sound is a melting pot, a brilliant blend of country, rock, folk, RnB, and pop influences. Having been years in the making, the intense level of polish and finesse put into the album is clear, but the delicately-tuned final product doesn’t betray the band’s authentic sound in the least. New Music: Special Solace EP ‘Single Years’

Cedric Noel left Fredericton for Montreal in October. We didn’t treat him right, we didn’t show him how much we needed him and now four months later he’s still trying to move on. And even though we don’t deserve him, he’s bleeding his heart out for us. He’s just sent us a love letter in the form of a Valentine’s Day EP. ‘Single Years’ is being released under the moniker Special Solace, and it’s going to have you yearning. New Music: Sam Astorino’s ‘Got No Wings’

‘Got No Wings’ is a solo debut from Sam Astorino, but he has a long history of working with bands in Saint John. The seven track album is a first solo effort by the artist, who you may know from The Torinos. Astorino even revisits them with a stripped down acoustic version of ‘Don’t Knock It’.
