New Music: Elephant Skeletons Releases Real Cuts/Surreal Blood as TAAPE

Is Elephant Skeletons having some form of identity crisis? Maybe. He has recently released new music under the strange and poorly-presented guise of TAAPE. The album, called Real Cuts/Surreal Blood, was released September 6th. He claims it’s just a “place” to put the songs that haven’t found their spot on his album The Traveller, but why is it that they can’t co-exist under the same Bandcamp account? We think there’s more to it. Continue reading New Music: Elephant Skeletons Releases Real Cuts/Surreal Blood as TAAPE

New Music: Partner Releases Long Awaited ‘In Search Of Lost Time’

We’ve been waiting for this. We’ve been waiting much longer than any of us could have ever realized. In Search Of Lost Time, Partner’s first full debut album, isn’t just the most anticipated album of 2017, but perhaps the best album of the ’90s,  just two decades removed. It could be a time capsule, deemed too awesome. Without being tiresome, the album is a glorious revisitation of all the poppy, simple, and wonderfully dumb charm that gilded MTV’s golden age. New Music: The Hypochondriacs Release ‘The Hypochondriacs in 3/4’

Fredericton’s The Hypochondriacs have released their debut full-length album ‘The Hypochondriacs in 3/4′. The Hypochondriacs have been a staple on the Fredericton music scene for several years now, playing at local venues and Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, but lacked a formal album that could reach more listeners. This album is long overdue, but was ultimately worth the wait. Continue reading New Music: The Hypochondriacs Release ‘The Hypochondriacs in 3/4’

New Music: Dennis Ellsworth & Kinley Dowling’s ‘Everyone Needs To Chill Out’

‘Everyone Needs to Chill Out’ is the tongue-in-cheek title of the debut collaboration between veteran PEI performers Dennis Ellsworth (Haunted Hearts) and Kinley Dowling (Hey Rosetta!). It’s an apt title for this collection of mellow and melancholic music that finds it’s home somewhere between the Maritimes and Nashville (though it was recorded in Toronto in a converted tractor-trailer). In fact, this disc would fit nicely beside any of the releases from the artists that are looking to shed stereotypes and redefine Nashville with their Ten Out Of Tenn movement. Ellsworth especially fits this mold with the earnest and hushed vocal delivery of tunes like ‘I’m Obscured’, ‘Sorrowful Woman’, or ‘Snowing In Amsterdam’. New Music: Subtle Get Righteously Emo On ‘Procrastinator’ EP

Subtle, the new recording project from Drew Sweet, is forcing Saint John to relive the parts of it’s youth that were maybe a little too real with their debut EP Procrastinator. Many of the bands in the city have their own unique ways of pulling at your heart strings but few get slapped with the oft misunderstood and sometimes unwanted label of being emo. While bands like My Chemical Romance that make middle schoolers dye their hair blue and rock an “emover” belong in the past, the genre itself is much more than that. For those who want to discover what emo really has to offer, Procrastinator could serve as a perfect introduction to the genre.
