New Music: The East Pointers ‘What We Leave Behind’ Is An Eclectic Mix Of Storytelling
Prince Edward Island’s The East Pointers introduced their second album this fall as a follow up to their Juno Award-winning debut Secret Victory, released in 2015. What We Leave Behind is an eclectic mix of country, pop and blue grass embedded in traditional jigs and folk roots. Known for their ability to reach listeners around the globe with their warm and distinct celtic sound, fiddler/singer Tim Chaisson, banjoist Koady Chaisson and guitarist Jake Charron alongside Canadian singer/songwriter Gordie Sampson produced eleven tracks that weave together stories about life on the sea, travels abroad and historical accounts of tragedies while all echoing hope, love, and loss. New Music: The Brood’s ‘Transistor’ Is Already Some Of Your Favourite Songs
The Brood might have called their first full album Transistor, but they could very well have meant Flux Capacitor. Like a bunch of Marty McFlys in a Bricklin, they’re not all that great at time travelling. On the other hand, the result is a beautiful smorgasbord of late 20th century radio hits, like someone produced the album after glossing over the cliffnotes of pop music. Sleepy Driver are returning to their roots with their new album Sugar Skull, and that means a steady flow of radio-friendly hits straight out of the 90s. The band has doubled back from the foray they made into the wilderness of instrumentals on their album Ignatius earlier this year, back into the friendly territory of college rock. Unfortunately, the results are a lot like moving back into your parent’s house after finishing your degree—it may be familiar and even comforting, but it never feels quite right.
