Whew! October has been a busy month — a conspicuously month. We’re not the type to go in for conspiracy theories (though just imagine the fun we’d have with a ‘rumours’ column…) but it’s not entirely out of the realm of suspicion that Atlantic Canada’s musicians were saving up their material from the last two years just for this moment. We’re still working our way through all the albums released this month.
There’s something intensely terrifying and equally tantalizing about exploring the dark side of anything, be it ourselves, others, or something else entirely. Without them, we would never come to relish in our highest highs, after all.
The quarantine gave us plenty of time to explore whatever intangibles we wished, but electronica artist Sabarah Pilon, the mastermind behind experimental electronic project DenMother, took it nine steps further with her latest concept album, Frantic Ram.
Clare Siobhan channels lowkey Nico vibes on “Twice a Day,” her new single that touches on “connection, relationships, worry, and that age-old search for meaning and belonging that we feel as we grow.” Although the song is officially being released today, it originally found its footing as a short TikTok that blew up overnight, garnering 38,000 views and 11,000 likes.
