On the bright side, let’s just say that 2019 has well prepared us for whatever next year might bring. At home, at least where arts and culture are concerned, nothing is literally on fire (but did you see our Top 100 Songs of 2019?). We can be thankful that the most ground shaking news came in the form of a few tremors that rippled through the festival scene as Shambhala announced their change in dates and caused a few festivals across the continent to shift nervously in their wake. Some festivals were more shook than others.
The first step to being a Town Hero is by starting right at home, as was demonstrated by The Town Heroes’ Michael Ryan last night. The City of Saint John has been abuzz lately, full of speculation for what might develop on the city’s waterfront property following the demolition of the site’s Coast Guard Building. One major concern for the location is the possibility of any new development displacing the AREA 506 music festival. Ahead of their December 4th, 2019 press conference, MusicNL have announced their longlist nominations for their annual MusicNL Awards. Most prominent among today’s nominations are Rum Ragged, Jenina MacGillivray, and Eastern Owl with four nominations, followed by Nick Earle, Christian Howse, Adam Baxter, Cicerone, Youngtree & The Blooms, and Rozalind MacPhail with three nominations each.
