Long established as the home of live music in Fredericton, New Brunswick, The CAP has been provided a crucial platform for local artists, a touring destination, and the source of a lot of good times.
Despite the support the venue has seen from the community to eke out a successful summer, hosting several reduced-capacity shows from the venue’s patio and parking lot, there are concerns the winter months and the need to move indoors will be disastrous. That is, at least without making some significant alterations.
In the rather unique microcosm of the Atlantic Canadian Bubble, artists and performers are returning to work. Rather than the season-long tours they’d usually be performing, they’ve made the best of these uncertain times by finding new audiences and new successes through the medium of podcasting.
Four such podcasts out of Atlantic Canada have very quickly found their stride: James Mullinger’s Mullinger Meets Canadians, the East Coast Music Association’s Radio ECMA hosted by Chris Batstone, critically acclaimed PEI songwriter Dylan Menzie’s Lost in Dreams, and Indie NL – The Podcast for the Unsigned Artist from Fairgale’s Stephen Green and Justin Fancy of Canadian Idol fame. Taking their annual celebration of homegrown New Brunswick music online this year a digital four-day version of Festival (506), Music•Musique NB (MNB) isn’t about to forget the Prix MNB Awards Show either. The live-streamed awards show will live-streamed, free, on October 22, 2020, kicking off the whole event.
Making the most out of a tough situation, Imperial Theatre has, as they say, pivoted. Rather than shutting their doors entirely for the last few months, they’ve created new opportunities. The theatre’s management team has welcomed musicians, thespians and dancers onto their stage and offered up their resources. Now, with the theatre reopening to the public the theatre will be hosting these artists in a series of showcases, as part of their Incubator Project.
