The 8th Annual Feels Good Bonspiel
Feels Good, for those not in the know, is an art and music community. Which is a technically accurate description, in the most lacklustre square-peg way. They are the party makers of New Brunswick. They are who you call if you want to have a good time. These are the people who are responsible for Folly Fest, arguably the best summer festival in the province, the Feels Good Christmas Party, and that must-have event for any civilized organization: the annual Bonspiel. Open Arts 32: Aurell + Aurell
This past Thursday night was the latest installment of Saint John’s Open Arts series that seeks to bring together experimental music and different art forms in a collaborative way. This performance featured two sisters, Karin and Gerd Aurell. Karin is a flutist, Gerd is a visual artist who uses old school (literally) projectors to create works of art on transparencies. Open Arts 31: The Four Temperaments
The music mesmerizes, creating a transient experience leading listeners into non-linear moments. There is no distinguishing between our senses—they mould into one as the oscillators take their toll. Does my enjoyment come from repetition of theme and melody? Or is it the three drinks I’ve consumed already…I have been induced into a hypnotic state of abandon. The phlegmatic piece creates a melancholic kind of desire. The sanguine leaves me insatiable. The room is dark. The drinks are strong. My heart beat slows to meet the tempo of the music.
