Sobeys came to dominate the Christmas commercial market twenty-nine years ago with the release of their ‘Star Of Christmas’ video. It kicked off the holiday season, always wedging itself firmly between A Garfield Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas, and probably again during commercial breaks of Bill Murray’s Scrooged, which we can’t be certain of because we were never allowed to stay up late enough to watch. Tales From The Road: The Burning Hell

Some clans have their own tents with familial memorabilia and history, while other tents house everything from genealogy booths, to bands, to a shop that specializes in plaid. Folks who frequent the festival have a cult like commitment to it – this was only my second time attending the festival, but I was accompanied by friends who were returning for their tenth year. SappyFest has a reputation in this region – that there is some unknown but powerful force ensuring that the programming will be interesting, you’ll meet great people, and the small maritime town will come alive and steal your heart.
