New Music: The Easley Quartet’s Futuristic Jazz Sounds of ‘The Starting Point VS The Steep Decline’

In the category of enduring musicians, Tom Easley is getting up there. He’s been making a career of it for the last three decades; either teaching at NSCC’s music department, or touring with one of the East Coast’s longest running musical mainstays, Hot Toddy. Despite that longevity, Easley felt he needed to get out and prove something to himself: that he can still do it like it’s the first time, and under his own steam. Joined by Mark Adam on drums and Geordie Haley and Kevin Brunkhorst on guitar, The Easley Quartet takes the eternally modern sounds of 80s jazz and makes them new again with The Starting Point VS The Steep Decline. New Music: Force Fields’ ‘Whatever Pie’ is Dark and Heavy

Force Fields is the meat grinder that chews through songs too weird to serve elsewhere. Comprised of many already superbands, from Grand Theft Bus to Fat Jebus to Olympic Symphonium, Force Fields has always seemed like their crazy uncle. Formerly known as The Fussy Part (known for the short-but-exquisite Ben EP under that name), Force Fields utilizes many of the unique elements that make each of their creator’s other projects so good. Their newest album, Whatever Pie, continues with this: a dark and heavy instrumental blend that received the softest release for such an anticipated album. Single: The Social Smokers Club’s ‘Speak into the Dark’ a Modern ’90s Hit

Two years after The Social Smokers Club formed in November of 2016, the Prospect, Nova Scotia band have released, as a single, the first song they ever wrote.
