The unconventional is nothing new for EVERYSEEKER. The Halifax-based festival has continually pushed the boundaries of music and performance, earning their avant-garde reputation. Switching things up is what they do best. So, with EVERYSEEKER’s annual festival canceled by the current pandemic, it’s not at all surprising that they’ve been quick to adjust to the new normal.
Last week the world lost one of its greatest songwriters, John Prine, due to complications from COVID-19
Prine’s passing is not something we are easily coming to terms with. And though celebrating him in the wake of his passing is not something we hoped we would be doing this weekend, it’s something we feel we must do nonetheless. This unequivocally gifted songwriter left us too soon, but not before acting as an inspiration to innumerable musicians and fans during his career.
On Saturday night, join us on The East Live at Home for When I Get to Heaven — A John Prine Tribute, and ode to this country-folk legend. Reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. The world has changed quite a lot since we last checked in, and while things might seem awfully dire for the music industry (and any industry that involves being anywhere except your couch) things aren’t as bad as they might seem. A burgeoning industry of livestreamed concerts has sprung up. Artists are finding support left and right. A wellspring of arts funding has been unleashed. And, arguably, the world is getting a much-needed timeout in general.
The times ahead won’t be easy. There will be loss. We will struggle in many ways; economically and spiritually, certainly, but in the midst of all we have an opportunity to thrive creatively.
Just because everyone is self-isolating, it doesn’t me you’re cut off from everything you love. Maintaining some semblance of normalcy is the only way most of you (not me, I’m fine) are going to get through the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s also the only way most small businesses are going to survive. DrinkNB.ca has been launched by Adam Clawson, owner of Fredericton’s Red Rover Craft Cider, to bridge that gap between many of the provinces craft breweries and their customers. The web service will allow zero-contact craft alcohol delivery in and effort to maintain social distancing while supporting local businesses.
