The Grand Ole Wilser’s: A Tribute To Classic Country

“Ever heard of cowpunk?” Josh Bravener is a born and bred Frederictonian who plays with a local rockabilly/’cowpunk’ band called The Hypochondriacs. He also, consequently, has a love for country music, the kind your parents grew up with: Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash, but with a punk-y twist. That love of twang has brought him to organizing a tribute show to the Grand Ole Opry called Grand Ole Wilsers. Continue reading The Grand Ole Wilser’s: A Tribute To Classic Country

New Music: David Picco’s ‘Start Again’

Although David Picco has been touring in Toronto for the last twelve years, the Newfoundland-born song-smith, with ‘Start Again‘, his fourth album, he’s returned to his native East Coast, both literally and metaphorically. You’ve left your old life behind you, you’ve checked out of the hotel, and you’re ready for the next adventure. Continue reading New Music: David Picco’s ‘Start Again’

The Young Dylan Menzie

Five minutes late, I ran into the coffee shop to find a calm, cool, and collected young man dressed in faded jeans, a plain white dress shirt, and shades. Dylan Menzie is the very image of cool: a whispy young James Dean sitting at a windowed table for two, sipping on a latte as if he was right at home in the hustle and bustle of Fredericton during the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival.
