Music•Musique NB handed out fourteen awards tonight as part of their twelfth annual Prix MNB Awards. The live-streamed broadcast, hosted by David Myles took place at Fredericton’s Charlotte Street Arts Centre, with Les Moontunes, The Cap and Wolf Castle coming away with the bulk of the spoils.
Les Moontunes took away the awards for Breakthrough Artist and Video of the Year, The Cap received the awards for Venue on the Year and Innovator of the Year, and Wolf Castle won both Indigenous Artist of the Year and Recording of the Year.
Organizers note that, for the first time in the history of the Prix MNB Awards, Recording of the Year came down to a tie, with awards going to both string duo Pallmer and Mi’kmaw rapper Wolf Castle.
“I want to congratulate all of the nominees tonight, who represent just a fraction of all the music that is created in our industry,” says Tracey Richard, Vice-President of MNB. “We want to acknowledge the work of all those who share their time, their talents and their creativity with us.”

The remainder of the MNB’s Festival (506) will be presented as a series of digital showcases, each of which will be recorded this weekend to accommodate a health-conscious effort of presenting sans-audience. Recordings will take place at the Charlotte Street Arts Center, as well as the Carrefour Beausoleil in Miramichi and the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton. Artists and industry pros will also be pivoting to a digital platform, moving the networking side of the conference and developmental sessions to Gather on Nov. 18-20.
