With a sudden spike of cases in New Brunswick, Thanksgiving isn’t the only event you’ll be attending remotely. Music·Musique NB has also requested that you tune into the 2021 PRIX MNB AWARDS Show from the relative ease, comfort, and safety of your own homes.
Back in the carefree days of Summer, while birds were singing, the sun was shining, and the province’s cases numbers remained low, Music·Musique NB had optimistically announced an ambitious, in-person event for the 12th annual Festival (506). It would have spanned three New Brunswick cities (Fredericton, Miramichi, and Moncton) over six days in two parts (October 21-23 and November 18-20) with the Prix MNB Awards Show taking place in the Jim Myles Auditorium at Fredericton’s Charlotte Street Arts Centre while also streaming live over Facebook.
Now, in the Autumn of our year, things are looking a bit more grim. Our turkey dinners are in jeopardy, our cases are spiking and the music industry is staring down the barrel of a long, cold winter. In their wisdom, Music·Musique NB has pivoted away from a live in-person event to, once again, streaming the PRIX MNB Awards Show and showcases via Facebook for the second year in a row.
The silver living in today’s announcement: David Myles will be hosting the PRIX MNB AWARDS Show from the Jim Myles Auditorium. You just won’t be there (but all the closer to your fridge).
The 2021 PRIX MNB AWARDS will be taking place as schedule (with some significant alterations) on October 21 at 8:00pm with no public present. The evening will include showcase performances by Pokuhulakon Witsehkehsu : Sisters of the Drum, Colin Fowlie, Cédric Vieno, Wolf Castle, plus a collaboration between Acadian singer-songwriter Chloé Breault and string duo Pallmer.
The award show will be produced by Stephen Lewis and Jason Merrill of Marshall Studios, with showcases being be filmed, edited and presented to local, national and international buyers during Conference (506), an online-and-industry-only event, taking place November 18-20.
