Tye Dempsey’s ‘So the Story Goes’ is a Personal Theme Song About the Value of Hindsight

You’re only young once. Which is really a shame, considering how much better you’d pull it off on the second try. Reflecting on some of his victories and missteps on his latest single, “So the Story Goes,” Tye Dempsey cranks up the country vibes as he recognizes that, for better or worse, it might have been worthwhile to slow down and smell the roses.

“This song certainly highlights my own experiences of growing up and coming of age. The lyrics in the chorus certainly are an indicator of that,” says Dempsey.

“Just like the stars reflecting
Off the hood of my Eldorado
Yeah lovin’ you honey
Should’ve been my only motto but I
I’m a little older now

And so the story goes
Oh yeah we struggle to get by
But I don’t need no money
I see diamonds in your eyes and I know
That we’re a little older now”

Dempsey is making a clear case for living in the moment, but it’s just as much about spotting the moments that are going to appreciate in value later on.

“Looking back, there were many aspects that I could have and should have paid better attention to but I was often distracted by other aspirations,” says Dempsey. “I think that there are others out there who could relate to it in that way. Hindsight is always 20/20 and this is my own personal theme song for it.”

Dempsy is breaking this single out for a special occasion, with a special release coming with a live-off-the-floor performance for this year’s Jim Beam National Talent Search presented by Canadian Music Week.

“I was fortunate enough to be named as one of the three finalists representing the Nova Scotia market for the online talent search. Performances were filmed at Halifax’s Sonic Temple Studio and will be available for viewing and voting from now until July 10th.

“I hope that those who check it out will send a vote my way. I’m absolutely thrilled to represent Nova Scotia in this year’s provincial rounds and hope to win the chance to represent again at next year’s Canadian Music Week in Toronto.”
