British Columbia pop duo Fionn dropped their single “Taste For It” back in March, being met with praise at every corner and outlet for their “certified bop.”
Two months later, a duo on the other side of the country has taken it upon themselves to iterate on the hit and, as expected from Halifax EDM heavyweights PINEO & LOEB, the result is superbly fresh, carving out a creative angle all their own in their remix of “Taste For It.”
“We were recommended by another label to 604 Records who were looking for a remix for Fionn. We loved the track right away and very excited to put our own spin on it.”
In true EDM fashion, the remix takes much of the focus off of the lyrics and puts it more onto the sound production. While echoes of Fionn’s lyrics are still present throughout, they instead serve as an extension of PINEO & LOEB’s bells and whistles, lined with harmonious effects and rhythmic chopping that meld with the rest of the tune effortlessly.
As the lyrics are shifted downwards, the rest of the track is shifted up. Carried by a deliciously-bassy kick drum beat, magical synth pads sound off all over the place, boosting the sound of the original tune in a way that lets it share the spotlight with the rest of the original’s assets. Rounded off by inspired keys and brass instruments that give it that final, flavourful punch, PINEO & LOEB have taken a great tune and made it great all over again.
“Releasing music is our absolute most favourite thing to do and this track came together very naturally,” says Pineo. “It’s a real thrill to be on their EP alongside Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench.”
