Apryll Aileen may have played stages from Hollywood, California to London, England but, of all places, it’s the natural beauty of her home in Atlantic Canada that she’s celebrating with her latest single, “Home.” Aileen breezes from the anthemic straight into these gloriously fun ’90s pop-inspired beats and back again for what might be her greatest track yet.
“Home” is the first track to be released from Aileen’s upcoming studio album, Rising Tides, which has been produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter LVR (Daniel Lafrombe). The track channels big ’90s vibes, channelling acts like Love Inc., TLC and a touch of Madonna.
Aileen pulls inspiration for the alt-pop track from her own journey, and the perspective it gave her on her home, and what both of those mean when it comes to self-realization.
“My journey started when I hopped in my car and drove to Venice Beach, California from Atlantic Canada,” says Aileen. “The road had many ups and downs, bumps and turns, but if I didn’t have the courage to leave, I wouldn’t have been able to write this song.”
Aileen says she was further inspired by a favourite quote from Thomas à Kempis: “Wherever you go, there you are.”
“I truly believe home is a place inside us all,” says Aileen. “No matter where we are on a map, we can find our spiritual truth within.”
That being said, it seems that Atlantic Canada holds a special place on Aileen’s map. The whole song was designed to sing the praises for the nature of her home province, promote the restoration of the connection between humans and their environment, and the process of healing through rooting yourself in whatever place you call home.
Aileen will be celebrating the release of “Home” with a special live-streamed performance with Juno Award-nominee and the East Coast Music Association’s 2019 Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award-recipient Hubert Francis (EagleFeather, Alan Syliboy’s Thundermakers). They will each perform a set during a live-streamed concert via Side Door Access, presented by Paris Crew, from Sanctuary Theatre in Uptown Saint John.
