Good Dear Good Keep Us on Our Toes With ‘Guess Again’

The latest single from Good Dear Good takes another leaf from the book of Julian Casablancas. “Guess Again” certainly sounds like The Strokes went hard on a budget for a laser dance party, while singing earnestly about getting yourself pinned into a corner.

“Keep them guessing again,” the band sing in the unnaturally harmonious unison only possessed of the self-assured, leaving us to wonder if we’ll ever pinpoint the true meaning of the song. But that’s only natural; the band assure us that the meaning of the song, as with all their songs, is never truly meant to be derived. Instead, the listener is left to interpret it largely for themselves.

It leaves us with the same feelings we’ve experienced at a middle school sock hop; obviously, we know there’s supposed to be dancing involved, but we’re supremely unconfident about what any of it means.

“However, for me, the overarching themes for the song would be perseverance, strength in numbers, and being unapologetically alive,” says Good Dear Good’s Tim Hatcher. “Someone’s true self waking up for the first time and attempting to navigate a new sense of self in a world that might not accept who they truly are.”

Hatcher notes that themes will be touched upon, possibly even elaborated, with an upcoming music video produced by NSCC Screen Arts alum, Emily Fricker. The music video for “Keep Guessing” is expected to be released on April 9, 2021.

The band also says that we can expect more in the way of future releases, as they’re hoping to get back into the studio as soon as possible, with an EP hopefully coming sometime later this year.

“We’ve been working with John Mullane for our last two singles and are really pleased with how things have turned out, so we’re looking to keep the ball rolling and get some more music out.”
