The latest single from Moira & Claire captures the microcosm of runaway thoughts and insecurities forged in the raging fires of the teenage brain. “You Look Good in Yellow” is a nice reminder that you once cared how people looked, or how you look, or what you thought of each other and it was both exciting and terrifying.
To be fair, Moira & Claire put it a little more simply. As has been their modus operandi, the pair maintain a youthful innocence as they pluck away on the ukulele and they should absolutely treasure and be treasured for that as long as they can. Youth is fleeting, the strangely traumatizing experience of high school is both brief and invaluable, and it’s just a matter of time before they’re working from a home office in sweat pants like the rest of us.
“‘You Look Good In Yellow’ is a song about a high school crush,” explain the duo. “While writing the song, we had a realization that the vibe needed to transition from ‘cute acoustic’ to ‘edgy pop-rock’ by the end. We were so happy to have achieved this sound by recording in-studio and having our talented friend play the drums.”
The aforementioned studio was none other than the legendary New Scotland Yard Studio in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where Moira & Claire worked with the equally legendary Thomas Stajcer and Heidi Burns who performed on drums and background vocals.
While the girls have the rest us of wondering how many yellow outfits we own, they’ve been seeking out fame and fun in the lands of TikTok and Instagram. The pair had already stuck digital paydirt with a take on Timothée Chalamet’s Dec 2020 SNL skit “Tiny Horse” re-imagined as a Phoebe Bridges tune, which even received nods from SNL themselves. The pair assure us that they’ll be producing more content for the platform with more fun videos to come.
