Andrew Waite’s New Music Video Has Us Wishing We Could Go Out Like That

Andrew Waite’s recently released single, “Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That,” just got treated to a new music video that’s an adventure of epic proportions. It might not be the latest film from Peter Jackson, but Waite’s excursion to an abandoned mansion to confront a mirror-version of himself contains more excitement than most of have seen in the last year, beyond the occasional death-defying trip to the grocery store.

The trick of Waite’s new video is that the majority of was produced without him ever having to set foot much further than the garage it was filmed in.

The song, a co-write with Chris Kirby and Colin MacDonald of The Trews, puts out a message that when the chips are down, Waite isn’t prepared to let anyone else hold him back — least of all himself. It’s an anthem for perseverance and determination and the merits of a ripping good sax solo (thanks to Ian Sherwood).

Through the magic of CGI, director Brendan Henry pulled together an otherworldly romp that has Waite exploring the halls of a building we’re no longer convinced exists in any form. For a minute there, before Waite gets attacked by the brass section, he had us convinced.

“I had no real part in that bit,” says Waite, giving the lion’s share of the credit to Henry.  “It’s like magic to me. There are parts for sure that you can tell and definitely others that are really hard to tell. We did a lot of it in a garage, some in my living room, and a bit in his living room. He had it all mapped out in his head.”

Andrew Waite’s upcoming album is expected to be released sometime later this year. In the meantime, we might have just been sold on the merits of becoming early adopters of The Matrix if it means that we can get out like that.
