Succeeding Carol Caollicutt’s nearly four-year-long tenure as the New Brunswick Arts Board’s (artsnb) Chair, Alain Boisvert has been elected to the position at the arts organization’s annual meeting, held in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick.
Boisvert comes to artsnb from the Association des enseignantes et enseignants francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick (AEFNB), New Brunswick’s Fracophone Teachers Association, to which he was recently appointed as the General Director in May, 2020.
The recipient of the 2016 Ambassador of the Year Award from the Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles, Boisvert has had a varied career throughout the arts.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Communications from the University of Ottawa and a Master’s degree in Communications from Université du Québec à Montréal, Boisvert has worked as a television host, an actor, a radio host, a journalist, served as the Executive Director of La Nouvelle Scène, the Head of Communications at the National Gallery of Canada, the CEO of Kings Landing Historical Village, and Director of CCNB – Acadian Peninsula Campus.
Boisvert is also the author of the novel mépapasonlà, a story, set in Fredericton, New Brunswick, about the adventure of fatherhood.
“When you understand the unique role of professional artists in supporting a creative economy, in building bridges between our cultures and linguistic communities, in encouraging innovation and fostering our sense of belonging, you understand how relevant artsnb is in New Brunswick,” says Boisvert.
“When we grasp the incredible power of arts and culture to nourish curiosity and openness to others, to be a driving force for balance and well-being in our communities, to be a vehicle for change and new ideas, we realize the incredible potential of our organization to support the vitality of the province. I look forward to making a humble contribution to artsnb’s next cycle as we celebrate its 30th anniversary.”
