Music Nova Scotia Pulls the Plug on 2020 Awards Show

As a result of the past eight months being some of the hardest that local music industries have ever seen, Nova Scotia Music Week has made the tough decision of foregoing their 2020 Music Nova Scotia Awards, which was scheduled to take place from November 5th to 8th in Syndey on Cape Breton Island.

Here is the full announcement the music association made earlier today:

Due to the concerns surrounding Covid-19, Music Nova Scotia was deeply saddened to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Nova Scotia Music Week, our signature event. At this time, we regret to announce that the Music Nova Scotia Awards will also not be taking place in 2020.

It is our hope that 2021 will see a return to the in-person event we all love, and a new incarnation of the Music Nova Scotia Awards. Eligibility for any 2021 awards associated with a release date will be reflected to support all albums/singles that would have been in contention for the 2020 awards. We look forward to sharing news regarding the format of the Music Nova Scotia Awards in the new year.

Although the traditional version of NSMW was cancelled, the Music Nova Scotia staff are working with the board and membership to create some dynamic programming that will bridge the gap between the 2019 and 2021 iterations of the event. Stay tuned to our socials and newsletter for more information on upcoming initiatives.

Music Nova Scotia would like to congratulate the artists and industry who have been working so diligently during this difficult time. We encourage members to send us their news and tag us on socials, so we can continue to share your great talent with our network.

For 2021, Music Nova Scotia plans to host Nova Scotia Music Week in its home city of Truro, Nova Scotia, as was originally planned. And to make up for the loss of this year, the music association hopes to host their 2022 event in Sydney.
