T. Thomason continues to revisit his past catalogue with the Part II series, putting new spins on his songs with some heavy hitters of the Canadian music scene. And Thomason does not disappoint on “Bliss Part II”, the latest- and final- single from the project, featuring the iconic Sarah McLachlan. Accompanied by a lyric video with the gentle illustrations of Megan Green brought to life with animation by Josh Owen, this release is just what you need if you’ve had a long week.
Comfort levels are through the roof on this rendition of “Bliss”. Gone are the heavily modulated vocal layers of the original, stripping the song down to the vulnerable hope that lies at its core. McLachlan’s vocals begin the track with a care and warmth that truly brings out the depth of Thomason’s words. The two trade verses before coming together in powerful harmony. The instrumentation is beautifully understated and grows and swells throughout the track, feeling both cinematically grand and as intimate as a campfire.
Thomason claims having McLachlan on “Bliss Part II” “was the first collaboration I pictured when dreaming up the Part II Project”, McLachlan being equal in her admiration: “T. has a deep emotional connection to the songs he writes and a soul-baring truth to his performances and I’m so proud of what he’s accomplished.”
The passion of both artists is evident on the track, and their delivery really elevates the introspection and support of the lyrics.
While revisiting tracks so early in a career isn’t the most common, there’s a lot to be taken away about T. Thomason as an artist from the Part II project. His approach to tracks from just two years ago is entirely different, but the soul of the songs are the same. “Bliss Part II” puts his wisdom as a musician on display, proving that he not only can keep up with the greats but is on a constant trajectory of growth as an artist.
