Following up on the success of his 2019 single, “Slow Down”, Chris Ryan returns with “I Ain’t Mad”. The less-than-traditional love song, co-written with Chris Kirby, has all the punch of a roundhouse kick, which is appropriate considering it sounds like it should be rolling over the credits of a Patrick Swayze reboot.
“When we were writing ‘I Ain’t Mad’, I wanted to channel a mid-’90s country feel,” says Chris Ryan. “I love the taste of Vince Gill and Dwight Yoakam, when guys expressed the vocals, and really played guitar!”
Working with producer and singer/songwriter Chris Kirby, the track has the guitars screwed down tight and the chorus pushed up in a way that says country by feels like soul.
“Myself and producer/co-writer Chris Kirby have had a great relationship for a number of years. I love the way we were able to mould a ’90s country feel, but still have the song be very modern,” says Ryan.
“I Ain’t Mad” might not be a traditional take on a love song, but it does seem ridiculously wholesome. After all, what kind of love is better than the kind that encourages you to work on yourself? While any relationship might demand compromise, this one seems like the kind where the sacrifices are more than worth it.
“It’s very different for me to cut a ‘love song’, so we wrote it with a unique twist,” says Ryan. “At its core, ‘I Ain’t Mad’ is about having somebody come into your life unexpectedly and make you a better, happier person by changing your daily routines and habits. I’m thrilled with the way we were able to channel the roots of some of my country music heroes and create a modern-day love song that fits me as an artist and person!”
Chris Ryan is currently writing songs for his next album which is expected to be released sometime in 2021.
