Music Video: SKELETON CLUB Hit the Jackpot With ‘777’

SKELETON CLUB’s latest release has taken just about as many twists and turns as you can imagine over the course of the year. Initially intended for an April release, “777” experienced a lot of ups and downs as the band pushed the video from one disaster to the next as it slowly burned a hole in their proverbial pocket. It seems timely, given that the single kicks as the nature of the rat race and how we cope with it.

SKELETON CLUB’s debut LP, Death, Love, & Money, introduced the band with a bang. Punchy and full of hooks it dealt with such broad universal topics as love, death, and money, just as the title suggests, but in spectacular fashion. Recorded at the Old Confidence Lodge in Riverport, Nova Scotia, the auditory odyssey stoked a heavy groove and blew our minds.

The band says they’re narrowing their focus for a series of singles, starting with “777”. The collection, titled SKELE SEASON: ONLY HUMANS turns the eye inward on human nature.

“ONLY HUMANS will be covering the idea of good & bad in each person, and everyday ups & downs in a more personal way,” explain SKELETON CLUB. “‘777’ is about feeling restless while running in the rat race, coping with prescriptions, and sometimes hoping for an easy way out (jackpot win). It talks about how we’re all still kids, it’s just the game that changes as we grow up.”

Driven by the ever-present percussion of Morgan Zwicker, the band crank their usual punch to an 11. It’s not just the drums either. This is a level beyond gated reverb. This is using a choir of children as percussion and balancing it against a sea of fuzz and it is magnificent. SKELETON CLUB has hit the jackpot.

The video for “777” is the first release from SKELETON CLUB’s upcoming collection of singles SKELE SEASON: ONLY HUMANS which, after some earlier delays, is now expected to roll-out through the remainder of 2020.
