Music Nova Scotia has announced that Allegra Swanson will be taking on the role of the organization’s Executive Director.
Swanson’s appointment is hoped to bring a renewed sense of stability to Music Nova Scotia following a year-long search. Scott Long, the previous Executive Director who held the position for a decade, left the organization in February 2019 to take over as Managing Director and Executive Producer of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
Since Long’s departure, the position of Interim Executive Director had been filled by Lisa Stitt, Music Nova Scotia’s Member Relations and Operations Manager.
“The Music Nova Scotia board and staff are greatly looking forward to the leadership, experience, and extensive knowledge Allegra will bring to the role of Executive Director,” says Brian Doherty, President of Music Nova Scotia.
Swanson’s resume includes Events Manager and Planning & Development Manager for The JUNO Awards / Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), Director of Communications and Recording & Licensing Manager for the Canadian Music Centre, Associate Producer at Classical:NEXT for the opening reception and concert on behalf of the Canada Council in Rotterdam, and she has produced over 50 albums while running the award-winning recording label Centrediscs.
Needless to say, she seems well qualified for the position.
“I am thrilled to take on the role of Executive Director with Music Nova Scotia,” Swanson says. “During this unprecedented time when most artists are facing incredible loss, I strongly believe there is opportunity to be found. I look forward to working with the team at Music Nova Scotia to reimagine how we create and consume music within the province, and how arts organizations and funding bodies can work together to create new opportunities to support artists during the pandemic and in the future.”
Swanson begins her new role with Music Nova Scotia on September 8th, 2020.
