Over the weekend, Saint John local metal legends Elevate The Virus released a new single and lyric video for their track “Ramshackle.” This track brings a deadly arsenal of fine-tuned talent and truly heavy riffs together in perfect harmony. The precision use of arpeggiated melodies and pinpoint drumming in this track brings back memories of early Lamb of God work with a new and refreshing take on the classic heavy metal genre.
At just under 4 minutes, this marathon of heavy-hitting riffs and near-demonic vocals is a clear choice for any headbanger’s playlist this summer. The lyrics of the song follow along with that theme of perfect harmony alongside the instrumentation, managing to pair social commentary with that sense of brutality and anger we have all come to know and love from the metal community.
This most recent release from Elevate the Virus also serves as an introduction to the band’s latest member CuJo Bonvie.
CuJo, the band’s vocalist had this to say about their release; “’Ramshackle’ is a song I wrote about a family I used to live with, and some of the trauma I was forced to witness and experience.”
Justin Goguen, the band’s guitarist also took some time to talk about CuJo joining the band and their writing process for the single.
“Lyric-wise we have given CuJo full reins to write about what he chooses. It’s very collaborative though, and we basically all sit down and write together. We are very like-minded individuals, and the core three members of the band, myself, Adam and Jacob, have been writing together since 2012,” says Goguen.
“We all felt CuJo really fits our style, and we have been friends for years. It was the natural decision, we didn’t even have to think twice about bringing him on board.”
