Music Video: Adyn Townes Cracks Open the Family Video Vault for ‘Kids’

Adyn Townes returns for a second kick at the can for his latest single, “Kids”, with a new video. Or, more accurately, he has returned with an old video. Townes has dipped a little further into the already nostalgia-laden track with a deep-dive into his family video collection, and has emerged with his own origin story.

The video has been pieced together for family “archival footage”, from when Townes was still finding is footing as a musician. It’s no Christopher Nolan production, although Townes may be playing the role of a cavalier anti-hero, at least from the piano’s perspective. It is, however, the gritty and distorted music video we deserve, laying out the early steps of Townes’ musical journey as a Bruno Mars prototype.

If that wasn’t enough, we get a deeper look into Townes’ creative process; the untethered possibility of boundless imagination. The end result: a fictitious band (and apparently just of many) created by Townes and his brother, called “The Boogey Man Band” and looked like a youthful ZZ Top side-project.

The track is an ode to naivete; the mixed blessing of innocence and inexperience when “life and love were effortless,” as Townes explains, and harkens back to a simpler time when your biggest concerns were probably the tracking on your VCR, how sick your shades were, and how much time your parents were prepared to dedicate to documenting your big break.

The song is set to be released as part of his upcoming sophomore album, In Frames, in February 2021. It will be Adyn Townes’ first full-length release since his July 2018 debut album After the Fall.
