Ahead of her debut full-length album, Acadian artist Chloé Breault has released the album’s first single, “P’tits problèmes.” Reflecting on the state of mind of everyone who is stuck inside this year and spending far too much time on the internet, the track reminds us not to let the little problems affect our mental health.
Hailing from Bertrand, in New Brunswick’s Acadian Peninsula, Breault sticks to her Francophone roots and sings entirely in Acadian French.
Lyrics “On a tous nos p’tits problèmes, pas besoin d’en faire une scène,” and “Réveille-toi et sens les roses. La boîte des mots va t’écraser; tu vas faire mal au dos” drive home Breault’s message of breaking the addiction to social media and getting outside. Though we are limited in our interactions and activities, we still have plenty of opportunity to get outside and nourish both our mental and physical health. There are certainly better options than scrolling through our newsfeeds all day and night.
“This song is a reflection of what is currently happening in the word, and its message is to avoid letting yourself get too carried away with social media and try to live in the present moment,” says Breault [our translation].
The track comes three years after Breault’s debut EP, Love, which won Music New Brunswick’s Recording of the Year award in 2018.
Produced at Doll House Studio in Moncton, “P’tits problèmes” carries a retro, groovy feel and transports us to a funky disco dance party. But more than that, it lifts our spirits with its lyrics about not letting the little things get us down. Breault’s almost sultry pop sound is even reminiscent of Moncton’s own Les Hay Babies.
Breault’s upcoming album, whose name has not yet been announced, is expected to drop this fall, and we hope the rest of it is every bit as groovy as this track.
