Single: Adam Moore Sings of Love, Complications and All, on ‘Standing’

“Standing”, the latest single from Saint John’s Adam Moore, harps on a familiar topic. As the songwriter puts it, “Standing” is a love song, much like many many songs that have come before it, celebrating one of life’s greatest journeys from the moment you’re first hit with that heady cocktail of dopamine, norepinephrine and phenylethylamine right down to the heartbreak, broken promises and a sense of instability… which is to say it’s all kind of complicated.

It could be argued that “Standing” is a song is about resiliency. To ride the rollercoaster, you must be this tall. One must first love themselves before they can love anyone else and all that. You certainly need to be prepared for some level of wear and tear.

“‘Standing’ is not just about one relationship in my life, but a combination of many lived experiences that have shaped my outlook on love and who I am,” explains Moore.

“‘Standing’ was an opportunity to challenge myself and step out of some of my more comfortable singer song-writer tendencies. Drawing on influences from many genres including Funk, R&B and Alternative Rock I tried to craft something unique but true to myself,” says Moore. “The song has an overall covering of disaster and heartbreak but also has moments of hope and truth, so I wanted to craft an arrangement that both moved and flowed in a way that was uncertain but not inherently sad.”

“With the sense of movement and rhythm that ‘Standing’ brings I hope to allow people to dance and move while still feeling the overall message.

“Not every love song has to be happy, not every love song has to be sad.”

The song was also the first result to emerge from Moore’s new studio. The artist says that he has recently received quite a bit of guidance from local instrumentalists, mix engineers and recording engineers to prepare, and he is eager to produce more.

“In the coming months,” says Moore “I can’t wait for more releases, from myself and other artists, that I am having the joy of working with in my studio.”
