Logan Richard returns with “Everyday,” his first single of 2020, a catchy little love song with some heavy summer vibes that shine with some stellar production.
Despite the high gloss sheen of “Everyday,” Logan says that he’s had the song kicking around for a while and while it is most definitely a love song, he admits it’s not shining for anyone in particular.
“It’s a song that I wrote over three years ago. A love song for no one really. It’s kind of about falling in love with someone but not knowing how to say it just yet,” explains Logan.
“It’s kind of like writing a song for an old friend. Being in love is a familiar feeling that’s kind of easy to tap into. I have been in this particular situation more than once for sure.
“It’s tough, and maybe subconsciously it was about somebody, but nobody in particular that I can think of. It’s a weird thing. Sometimes you don’t know what a song is about until years after it’s written.”
Despite the song lacking any specific object of Logan’s affections at the time of writing, he lyrically dives headfirst into the sentiments; presenting the ideals of newfound love and offering praise to an unknown.
“Y’ever just meet someone and not want to be with anybody else ever? You wanna spend every second of every day with them? I just can’t get enough of that feeling.
“It’s my way of telling someone how much they mean to me. Though I couldn’t find the words to say it at first, I felt it.”
Logan notes that, although the song was written more than three years ago, it conveniently still holds up in the context of his current girlfriend in a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy that echoes Savage Garden’s “I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You”.
Produced by Adam Gallant at The Hill Sound Studio in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, “Everyday” comes across like a romantic tryst between the big band sound of Dave Matthews and the punchy funk of Chris Kirby (perhaps a hangover from Richard’s previous single, “Lover Again”).
“[Gallant] is the best,” says Logan. “His space is so comfy and creative, and he is so remarkable at his craft. It’s nice to work with someone who’s great at what they do, but who is also a good friend and good energy to be around.”
Logan Richard’s self-titled EP is set to be released sometime later this year.
