Surprise! Saint John’s Sound Drown is back and sounds even stronger than ever. After taking a brief hiatus ever since their last tour in 2019, this four-piece pop-punk powerhouse has returned with their new single “Your Princess Is In Another Castle”.
Drawing inspiration from names such as New Found Glory, Seaway, and what sounds like a touch of The Wonder Years, “Princess” touches on those relationships we have all unfortunately been through, where someone in our lives takes advantage for their own gain. It’s usually not long until these people come back looking to do it all over again, castle after castle, inspiring pop-punk riff after pop-punk riff.
“The song is about someone using you, dropping you and then having the audacity to reach out to you again for their personal or emotional gain,” explains lead vocalist and bassist Brandon Wiseman. “We’re always much better off without those people and although the song is called Princess it’s about dealing with shitty people in your life and moving on.
“The song was written when this topic was very personal to me. Most of our upcoming LP is. I find the problems with writing personal lyrics are one – the song isn’t as relatable to listeners, and two – the memory will live on through one of our better songs, like a stain. It was very important for us to take a step back and let time sort out the resolve, and communicate that to our listeners. This way the song is now presented as a lesson learned, and a fun time! Also – we’re all kinda nerds at heart and throwing out Nintendo metaphors was just funny as hell.”
Produced by Adam Dicorne of Undertone Studios, “Princess” will be found on the band’s upcoming album, however, with the current pandemic, the release is currently to be determined.
“As far as future releases go, we’ve learned that releasing a full-length album is a heavier project than we thought, but it’s our main priority at this point,” says Wiseman, “We only have a few more studio sessions left, but the COVID-19 has forced us to temporarily pause operations. However, we’re hoping to explore responsible recording alternatives to counter the delay, and have more songs like this one out sooner than later.”
