Justin Fancy continues to explore the new direction his music career has taken as the former Canadian Idol performer delves back into his roots. His latest single, “Think About You” heads further down that country road, but with it comes a link to his past. The video includes a performance from a childhood friend, and the Canadian Idol/Big Brother Canada cross-over we didn’t expect.
Fancy is currently on something of a journey. Thanks to new relationship and the discovery of his daughter’s interest in music, Fancy has dusted off his guitar and taken a fresh approach his music, his way.
But something has to fill these songs and for that Fancy has turned to the experiences that have come in the wake of his last relationship.
“‘Think About You’ is a song that came from the heart at the time I had written it,” says Fancy. “I was going through a weird time in my life where I had accepted the relationship was over, but I had still been thinking about her and how she was doing, wondering if everything was alright. We had cut ties months before and figured it was best to cut communication. With the lack of closure at that time, there was always wonder about the what if’s or what could both of us done differently.
“With love comes affection, reminiscing, and a lot of emotion. I feel the way I had felt is described accurately in this song, also touching on the way I would of assumed she was feeling as well throughout it all. It’s a grown-up breakup song that touches on the fact that even though it didn’t work out, we still think about each other and probably always will.”
For the video, we join a pensive and meandering Justin Fancy. Starring alongside him (though at a safe social distance) is an estranged Sam Picco who appeared in Big Brother Canada season 7.
“I thought this was the perfect opportunity to have my childhood friend and superstar, Sam Picco, involved in this video in so many ways,” explains Fancy.
“She was just a perfect fit for what I wanted. I had sent her the song and asked if she was interested, and she was all over it from the beginning. She loved the song, and was very appreciative of me asking her to be a part of something as special as the song/video. Sam is a childhood friend of mine, grew up in the same area in Conception Bay South, and her stardom with Big Brother Canada was a tell tale sign of her talents. We wanted her in the video, it was just perfect, and I believe a lot of people are going to absolutely love the video and what we’ve done with it.”
Of course, the two never meet and Fancy is free to carry on with his abundance of winterland ponderings, while maintaining the recommended safe social distance. Remember, kids: if they’re close to your heart, keep them six feet apart.
