Dylan Menzie has released the first video from his upcoming triumvirate of two EPs and a subsequent album, and it’s just the taste of summer we’ve been missing. “Wild” is one of three tracks being released on Lost in Dreams: Wild Heart EP, and it feels as thought its been birthed out of the very currents of the ocean. Its pop influences are immediately apparent, with bubbly synth and an infectious rhythm.
Menzie sings of getting washed away in the tides of the ocean, of leaving behind your everyday life to get lost in the wild. The song is accompanied by a video directed by Aidan Searle. It combines animation with real-life imagery in a stop-motion fever dream of the ocean.
Though it’s a strong first impression of the album that feels like an establishment of a particular sound, it’s not necessarily a sign of what’s to come. Menzie plans on releasing two EPs leading up to the album to showcase the album’s many dimensions.
“When it came time to sequence this record and pick the singles, it’s many faces revealed themselves,” says Menzie. “Every time I tried to decide on a single, it felt like I was leaving the listener in the dark as to what the album was like as a whole. I decided to release the album in three parts, each focusing on a different face of the record. The first being the poppier side of Lost in Dreams, the second the Country/Americana side and the third, the record as a whole. I loved the idea of giving each aspect of the record its time in the limelight, and how with each release there’s more to sink your teeth into.”
The first EP releases April 10th, alongside tracks “Goodnight Sweetheart” and “One Heart to Another”. The full album will be released on May 22nd, and has been produced by Romesh Thavanathan of Hey Rosetta! fame.
