Music Video: The Trews Release an Isolation Video for ‘God Speed Rebel’

The Trews might be in isolation like the rest of us, but that’s not enough to keep them from releasing new music. Well ahead of the curve for live-streaming, with the bandmates each having performed their own solo streams, the next step was obviously an isolation-collaboration on their new single “God Speed Rebel.”

Directed by Marcel Preston, the video is rudimentary, not exactly pretty, but wonderfully creative. Cycling through the band’s video steams, it’s likely a harbinger for the future of music videos and how much imagination you can wring out of a grid. And maybe there’s even some charm to the pseudo-intimacy of seeing into their homes and offices.

Thankfully, the track was recorded well in advance of the video. The thought of compiling the audio from a collection of laptop microphones, all overlapping, clipping, and lagging at the same time.

The Trews released the video directly to the Facebook page early this morning with this message:

“Here’s a new song called ‘God Speed Rebel’. We’re calling it the ‘b-side’ to ‘Touch’ as they were recorded around the same time in the spring of 2019. The plan was to hold it back, perhaps for the next record, but we figured, under the circumstances, people could use a new tune to help get them through. Of course, the whole band is following self isolation guidelines and were unable to get together to do a video so we decided to embrace technology and do the video over Zoom. The song will be available on all DSPs on April 10 – until then you can hear it and check the video out here!!”

The band also note that all proceeds from sales and streams of the song will be going to The Unison Fund, which provides economic relief for people if our industry in times of crisis.
