Slowcoaster, those giants of rivalry, haven’t slowed during the time in isolation. With gigs being cancelled left and right, rather than wallow the band have changed course and taken off at a sprint. Apparently, when left to their own devices in isolation, Slowcoaster have an abundance of energies to pursue weird creative outlets, and more than enough friends to encourage them.
They also surprised everyone with the release of their new single today, titled “Haunt You.”
“I’m presently trying to get ahold of Hulk Hogan,” says Slowcoaster’s Steven MacDougall.
This isn’t an April Fools joke. Steven is serious, though April Fools Day might be an odd time to track down the Hulkster.
This isn’t the only celebrity MacDougall has been reaching out to this week. It’s all part of the bands new isolation initiative; a podcast full of Cape Breton banter and some people you’ve definitely heard of.
The release of the single was almost entirely an afterthought. But when you’ve got Mr. America on the other line that probably puts a lot of things into perspective.
“We recorded four new songs a few months before this all went down with plans to release during summer touring,” says MacDougall. “That’s gone now, so we started a podcast where we call celeb buds from around the world and ask them their opinions on the crisis plus some off hand stories. This song was written in the basement of the Algonquin Hotel and recorded in Cape Breton. It’s a tale that touches on the horror and heart break of domestic abuse.”
The song itself even seems to delve into some local trivia from the St. Andrew’s, NB and its reputedly haunted Algonquin Hotel, with a rock reggae take. MacDougall only says that there may be some truth hidden in the story.
