Moncton aerial artist and fitness expert Christine Johnson has made the leap from the pole to the recording studio. Johnson chose to switch mediums to record and release “Catching Dreams” to raise money for a friend’s medical and post-surgery expenses.
Christine Johnson is a name we’ve heard before. It’s even come up in the context of a music video, but not as one of the musicians. She performed as the titular character — or the interpretive dance equivalent — in Christine Campbell’s video for “Butterfly.”
This time, Johnson is behind the music.
Produced By Don Levandier (The Motorleague), Johnson’s tribute to her friend Rachelle Leger finds an inspirational tone for an alt country tune.
Leger was diagnosed with her first brain tumor at age 23 and had her second brain tumor removed at age 29. Now 36, Leger continues to battle and is undergoing treatment for stage 3 brain cancer — for the third time.
“Rachelle has been bravely fighting brain cancer for over 13 years,” says Johnson. “I wanted to record this song with hopes that it would inspire others and share a message of hope and courage”.
Johnson will be donating all funds raised from the digital sale of the song to Leger’s treatment. Johnson will also be hosting a fundraiser event at the Moncton Lion’s Club, which is being run alongside an existing GoFundMe campaign for Leger.
“Rachelle is an inspiration and I hope that this song and the funds raised let her know she is not alone. Light and love surround her,” says Johnson.
“All funds raised will help Rachelle and family cope with the financial stress this disease has caused, but also bring hope by gathering together to celebrate her strength.”
The May 9th event will also include performances from The Divorcees, Whiskey Rebels, Flea Market Underground, Felix Belliveau and Kyle and Jock Downs, Monkeytown, Good Old Boyz, Marco Rocca, Jaywalkers, Felix Belliveau, Justin Vautour, Adam Daly, Matt Hayes and more.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $15 or at the door for $20.
