Aquakultre, salt of the earth, pillar of his community, and 2020 East Coast Music Award nominee, has released a brand new video for “Pay It Forward,” showing just what can be accomplished when literally giving someone the shirt off his back.
Following “I Doubt It,” which was released back in September, 2019, “Pay It Forward” is the second single off of Aquakultre’s upcoming album Legacy and the album’s closing track. Where the first single highlighted disparity and the challenges of relating to circumstances we’ve never endured, “Pay it Forward” is a call for community and kindness and the simple request that “if you get the chance to help out, give a shoulder, it’ll only come back to you in the end.”
The song is a reflection of a vow Lance Sampson (AKA Aquakultre) made at the age of 19 after he was sentenced to five years in a federal prison. He’s turned his life around and made community his central focus since.
“The concept of ‘Pay It Forward’ has been a driving force in my way of life,” says Sampson. “It has played such a big role in my personal growth, my personality, and my morals, and has definitely helped me re-frame some of life’s harder moments in a positive light.”
“The musicality of the track has such a positive vibe to it, it wraps you up in this feeling of warmth,” says Sampson. “I think the tracks before it are so heavy, it was only right to remind people to be kind to one another.”
Aquakultre’s new album, Legacy, is due out in May, 2020.
