No matter who our valentines are today — a partner, some gals, some pals, ourselves or even our cats — we mustn’t forget to take a moment to reflect on what we have. Nebullama is here to help us with that task with the release of their newest single, “Pour un moment.” Playing into the romantic light we shine on times of the past, the Moncton group is delivering a track as romantic-sounding as imaginable.
With a retro doo-wop sound that places you in the middle of a 1950s Valentine’s Day sock hop, this track pretty well drags you through your grandma’s closet and spits you out wearing an A-line skirt and a neck scarf to boot. The sound evokes imagery of a dimly lit high school gymnasium, decked with pink and red streamers and balloons, and peppered with the reflections of a slow-moving disco ball. Young people are dancing slowly to the music, couples making sure to keep a bible’s distance between them.
The lyrics, however, pull us out of that image of innocence and sing of the wild rush that is the honeymoon phase. They describe the sentiment of wanting only to be with your partner and shutting out the rest of the world — even if only pour un moment.
The group wrote this track’s lyrics in their native tongue: Chiac. Bandmember Alex Tremblay says this helped the song feel as natural as possible while writing and recording.
“When we wrote this song we decided to go back to the basics, not only music-wise but also lyrics-wise, by writing them in Chiac …, as we’re all French and talk Chiac.
“This added to the general feeling of familiarity of the song. Super classic doo-wop chord progression and vibe paired with our most natural way of speaking made it really special for us while writing and recording the song.”
“Pour un moment” will appear on the band’s upcoming album, which they are expecting to release in April. It is also one of only two tracks from the release to have been recorded live off the floor, and we’re guessing it’s the most romantic.
