Music Video: Kylie Fox Shows Adventure Isn’t Everything on ‘Cradle Me’

Kylie Fox is a natural adventurer. If you spend thirty seconds talking to her you’ll immediately have the impression that she’s got a suitcase already packed somewhere. Her songs and stories are filled with tales of the west coast and time spent on the road, leaving an impression that she is perpetually on, or simply between, tours. Despite that restless spirit, Fox’s new single “Cradle” makes it clear that she still misses at least some of the comforts of home.

“I wrote the song while I was on tour last winter on the West Coast,” says Fox of her latest release. “In my solitude, I found power and peace, but also a longing to share the beauty I was experiencing with someone else.

“Being alone on the road is serendipitous and spontaneous but often I would wish to have someone in the car with me to agree that the view was exceptional. The song explores the relationship I have with the Canadian landscape, the relationship I have with the women in my life, and the relationship I was longing for in a partner.”

The song gets treated to an early release, just in time for CBC Searchlight competition, with a video full of tour clips. It’s mostly greasy spoons, gas stations, and vast stretches of Canada whizzing by in a blur; scenes that are intimately familiar in their uniformity but always lonely, “in-between” places.

Fox points out that life on the road is not without its rewards, saying she loves the adventure and surprises it brings.

“Because I rely on my own decision making, and I have a healthy dose of fearlessness, I often wind up in beautiful, weird, and seemingly perfect situations,” says Fox. “For instance, I tried to get tickets to a sold-out performance of Come From Away in Toronto once. I wound up with front row seats. despite telling my Uber the wrong address for the theatre, and expecting there to be scalpers. There aren’t any scalpers for Toronto musicals. I just got super lucky.”

“Cradle Me” will appear on Fox’s upcoming album, Green, which  is being released  in September, 2020. Naturally, Fox will be heading back out on the road next month.
