First and foremost, the 15th annual Canadian Folk Music Awards are happening in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island this year. Secondly, there are a handful of East Coast folk artists who are nominated for these national awards. Third, and finally, the news today is that CFMA have announced who will be performing over the course of the festival’s two award two nightly Awards Shows.
For the first time, the Canadian Folk Music Awards will be coming to Charlottetown. For the past 15 years of the music festival, conference and award show has been held in a different province each year and now they’ve made it to Prince Edward Island.
Over the course of the festival’s two nightly awards shows, 12 artists and CFMA nominees from across Canada will be performing amidst the presentation of 20 awards. Hosted by Jean Hewson and Benoit Bourque, the events will showcase the nation’s top musicians of the genre, and keeping things vibrant in-between acceptance speeches.
The 2020 CFMA Award Show Performances include: Vishtèn (Trad Album; Ensemble; Pushing the Boundaries), Kaia Kater (English Songwriter; Album – Producer). Ayrad (World Group). Leaf Rapids (Contemporary Album). Tri-Continental (Pushing the Boundaries).
Lennie Gallant (Contemporary Album; English Songwriter; Album – Producer), Eastern Owl (Indigenous Songwriters, Geneviève & Alain (Vocal Group), Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys (New/Emerging Artists), Abigail Lapell (Contemporary Album; English Songwriter), Le Vent du Nord (Trad Album), and Irish Mythen (Solo Artist).
Organizers for the Canadian Folk Music Awards say there are also more day-time and family friendly events to be announced, along with the details of their brand new Export Development Program.
For those unable to attend, organizers say that a live-stream of the Awards Ceremony will be made available via the CFMA website.
The 15th Canadian Folk Music Awards presentations and live performances take place on Friday, Apr 3 and Saturday, Apr 4, 2020 at The Delta Prince Edward, 18 Queen Street. Tickets and weekend passes are available for purchase online beginning today, and physical tickets and passes will be available from Back Alley Music (257 Queen St, Charlottetown, PE) in the near future.
