Music Video: Carry the Lost Break the Solace of Windsor’s Textile Mill for ‘Battle Tested’

Ten years and two EPs into their music career, Carry the Lost are currently preparing for the release of their debut album. Despite the decade of history already behind them, including opening for Big Wreck, performing on Canada’s Got Talent, and having their song, “Never Easy,” be featured in the end credits of The Trailer Park Boys, Carry the Lost still had yet to take the first and most crucial step that so many Nova Scotian bands and musicians had taken before them: filming a music video at the abandoned textile mill in Windsor.

That moment has finally come for the band, with the release of “Battle Tested,” the first heavy new single off of their upcoming album.

“Battled Test” was filmed and produced by Shane Greaves at the Nova Scotia Textiles building, which was constructed in the 1880s and in use until 2005. The abandoned building has become something of a landmark, but in recent years the town has explored possibilities of developing for the building for condos or a  seniors complex.

“I live very near to the old Windsor Textile Factory,” says Colin Tye, singer and  guitarist for Carry the Lost, “and upon hearing all these  old stories of it in its glory days, and how the community has said that it’s been  vandalized and sitting idle all these years, I thought it was a great time to bring  some art into the building and give it life for a day.”

The band are careful to mention that, despite the building being abandoned, they had the property permissions to make use of the building for their video.

“We got permission to use it, found a great film crew, and went to work. We are really proud of the result” points out Ave Trefry, Carry the Lost’s lead guitarist.

Even with those permissions and a film crew, shooting at the textile mill wasn’t without its challenges. Trefry can be seen having to rock out all the harder to compensate for being unable to plug his guitar in.

The debut album from Carry the Lost is expected to be released in Spring, 2020.
