With their new single “Corrosive,” Dazor is channeling some serious 90s rock-‘n’-roll energy. A few years in the making, the track signifies reflection one’s past struggles and acknowledgment of personal growth.
Though the song has been a part of the band’s regular setlist rotation for a few years, guitarist and vocalist Ian Panter, who wrote the track, says it has recently taken on a new meaning to him.
“[It] has kind of ascended to a new meaning since I wrote it over the last few months,” says Ian Panter. “I was going through some things, was in a bit of a dark place at the time of writing it [. . .]. But I’ve overcome those troubles and the smoke screen has lifted from my mind. So, what was once a song about why I’m feeling shitty has become more of a reflection of the past and how far I’ve come since then.”
The band say they found inspiration for the track in classic 90s alt rockers like Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters. These influences come through clearly in the music but are mixed with the band’s own grungy edge. It would fit in seamlessly alongside the music of those greats and will surely find its way into the hearts of all 90s music lovers who stumble upon Dazor.
“My favourite part is the bridge,” says Panter, “with the big spacy effects in the background, which was an impromptu idea from our engineer Darren Van Niekerk. He just picked up a guitar kind of whipped it out of thin air, and amazed we just told him to play that again but record it this time. And then we just kinda built off that.”
Where their previous single, “All Night,” was more of a clean, hard-hitting track, this one leans a bit more towards grunge and heavy emotions.
“It’s a special song for us, where our previous song ‘All Night’ was definitely more of a hitter on the radio, where this one kinda captures more of what we’re about in terms of intensity and sound.”
Produced by Darren Van Niekerk, mastered by Noah Mintz and recorded at the Sonic Temple in Halifax, the song presents just the right amount of fuzz and distortion to suit its style and bring the listener back in time by at least a couple of decades.
The band say that up next, they are going to be making some changes to suit the addition of their fourth member. This means they will be writing new music and recording new material that incorporates all members.
New member Brad Long is a guitar player who the band say fits perfectly into their dynamic, and it’s something they are very excited about.
“He’s brought a whole new element to the band and has greatly enhanced our dynamic on stage and in our song writing. He fits like a glove with the Dazor boys, and we can’t wait to start releasing music with our new line up.”
